Nine people were found dead today in two cars at the outskirts of Tokyo, Japan. Police believes that these incidents are part of a series of shady collective pacts of suicide. First, the bodies of three men and three women of about 20 years old were found in a rented pickup truck, apparently dead by asphyxia with carbon monoxide after taking medicines to sleep. The pickup truck was parked in an agricultural area of Miura, close to the bay of Tokyo, declared the police spokesman. According to the source, the asphyxia, pills and some joined writings found inside of the rented pickup truck suggest that it was suicide. A few hours later, the bodies of a man and two women, with ages between 30 and 40 years, was discovered inside of an automobile in a farm at Higashi Izu, about one hundred kilometers to the southwest of Tokyo, in similar circumstances. In the first vehicle, one of joined notes said: “I am tired of living, I am sorry”, informed the police. Apparently, these two last suicides are part of a series of pacts – made generally by the Internet – that resulted in the death of about 50 people since October of 2004. With 24,1 annual cases of suicides for each 100 a thousand inhabitants, Japan has the highest index of these incidents in the industrialized world, according to World-Wide Organization of the Health. Notice that this started to be frequent in a country where the suicide rate went up 10% in the last year and reached the platform of 34.427 people. Obviously, they are not all incidents that happen through the search of a web company for such end. And no one could say that the internet is responsible for such facts, which would be a great nonsense. Internet is a new and powerful tool at this moment for lonely and hopeless young people. Such people perhaps are not sensible anymore to the speech of reconstruction under an economic and military occupation and the discourse of alienation at work. We are speaking of a generation that it does not recognize itself in the values of previous generations and it does not find any sense in a consumption vacuum of a post-economic bubble Japan. It is a generation that found its ESC keyboard key in the tracks of simulation, synthetic pleasures and cyberspace. After all, who needs reality?* MA: Japanese concept, which means space-time suspension, the interval between the inside and the outside in architecture, the retention of the arrow on the bow before it is launched.
